Keith Ellison Results of Corruption Investigation and/or Ethical Problems:
Attempted tax evasion:
Ellison accepted and failed to disclose the value of a $13,350 personal vacation trip provided to him by a taxpayer subsidized Islamic school (Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy) to Mecca. Why? Ellison stated "Why should I waive a right that's accorded me under the rules?" (StarTribune.com) and "the rules said I didn't have to, so I didn't." (campuswatch.org) However, the House Ethics committee disagreed about Ellison's special perks and "rights" and had to issue a letter informing Congressman Ellison that he was legally required to report gifts.
